Okay. I just have to get this out there. The other day I had this fresh realization of what being a Jesus follower is all about and I was like “Why have I been embarrassed for so long?! Jesus really is AMAZING!”
You don’t have to be embarrassed to be a Christian. I know, I know, just the term itself makes me cringe a little too. It seems Christians have mainly been known for what they are against. Abortion. Homosexuality. Dancing. FUN. This. That. SO MANY THINGS!
But here’s the thing.
Knowing God really IS the best thing.
Jesus followers really DO have the BEST NEWS EVER!!
Stick with me here.
A way long time ago the first people ever were Adam and Eve. They lived in the most beautiful place on the ENTIRE earth and they walked and talked with God every single day and had access to him every single moment. That’s what was normal.
Then sin and crap entered the world and we got all messed up. (Okay, the seriously abbreviated version.)
Then so much amazing stuff happens, I’m not gonna go into all that cause that’s not the point.
Then Jesus. Jesus bursts onto the scene and lives the most perfect life. He dies a crazy, brutal death but then rises from the dead so that WE, the ones who messed up and decided we didn’t really need God, could be SAVED and live in the most glorious place, heaven, FOREVER!
Amazing. That IS good news. SUCH good news.
That was always good news to me, but I didn’t totally understand the depth of it’s value for every single person around me. It didn’t seem relevant or compelling enough to take a risk and share my “Christian-ness.” I didn’t realize I actually had good news.
But salvation and heaven isn’t all there is.
Then Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit, the VERY SAME SPIRIT that raised Jesus from the dead, to live inside of us. It sounds crazy. And it is! Now it means real, living God is with us ALL. THE. TIME. And THAT is AH-MA-ZING news!
We are never alone. We ALWAYS have a friend. ALWAYS have someone with us. ALWAYS have someone who will understand and listen and help us.
He gives us wisdom and direction when we ask for it.
He gives us overwhelming peace in exchange for anxiety and worry. It’s who He is. The Prince of Peace. HE’S GOT IT ALLLLL TAKEN CARE OF.
He is the Creator, the one who made the world, and He loves to share secrets and revelation with us (see Daniel 2v22 and 1 Corinthians 2v10). Which means we have SO MUCH creativity and so many ideas inside of us. Everyone. I’m completely convinced everyone has crazy amounts of creativity and astounding, original ideas inside them that the world is just waiting to see and experience.
He loves to talk with us and share secrets.
AND there’s SO MUCH JOY. The fruit of His Spirit is joy. Because He’s got it all taken care of. All the heartbreak, the terror, the hardest things, the confusing things, they’re still hard but there is ALWAYS hope. Because God is good and He’s SUPER good at restoring things and making all things new and it means THERE IS ALLLLLWAYS ALWAYS hope!
And, with Jesus NOTHING is impossible. Not the hardest, worst, most impossible situation. No thing is too big for Him. The impossible is absolutely possible with Him. He is King over it all. He is King. He adores you. He is absolutely on your side.
Miracles, healing and crazy provision are normal with God. Life with the Holy Spirit is supernatural and it’s supposed to be that way. Need more food cause the food ran out when you were feeding the hungry? It’s normal for God to multiply it. Need everyday provision? He’s a good caretaker, the BEST, and a really good dad. Matthew says He IS our Provider, we have ALL we need. Need a miracle in healing? God’s the best specialist around for whatever you need!
It’s no joke. Life with Jesus really is the best news ever. It was never meant to be harsh or legalistic or religious. Life with Jesus is full of wonder and fun and your mind constantly being blown.
He really is that good.
